Marketing to Moms: Tips for Crafting a Custom Message

Marketing to Moms: Tips for Crafting a Custom Message

Marketing to moms is a huge segment for many network marketing businesses. Learn how to craft messages to specific audiences, from urban moms to young moms here.

Moms control a large amount of the spending in many households around the world. That makes them a huge target market for businesses large and small.

And while many network marketers target moms as part of their business plan, many fail to break this audience down into smaller segments. As a network marketer, it’s important to understand that the same message won’t work for every mom.

For example, to really expand your sales network you need to learn how to differentiate messages that will work for young moms vs. messages that would work for urban moms.

But, that’s just the start. Keep reading to learn more about the strategies you can employ when marketing to moms.

1. Consider Generational Differences

Depending on the kind of products you sell, you need to focus on different generations of women. In the past, marketers have targeted baby boomers as a primary market since they were the largest generation.

But, as of 2019, they were overtaken by millennials. Many network marketers are now choosing to focus their business on Generation Z — the oldest of which were born in 1996. Generation Z is now hitting their mid-20s and starting their own families.

To successfully market to moms, you need to know how to craft messages that appeal to your target generation.

Most research suggests that millennials prefer marketing that crafts an experience rather than making appeals about the product. They’re also more likely to interact with brands that share their values and prefer Instagram and Facebook to newer, emerging platforms.

Generation Z, on the other hand, is more focused on saving money and tends to engage with brands that they find to have an authentic feel. If you want to engage with them, you may choose to look on Instagram and Snapchat.

2. Engage with Your Target Audience

Generally speaking, people don’t like to feel like they’re being sold to. They don’t need you to pander to them ensuring that your product is easy-to-use or that it can make them the star mom on the block. Instead, they want to engage on an authentic level with brands they can trust.

Being real with moms by listening to their needs and offering up advice where appropriate creates a deeper connection with your potential customer and gives you an opportunity to demonstrate the true power of your products.

Choose not to hide behind fancy branded ingredients. Reach out with authenticity and empathy to create an emotional connection with your audience.

3. Forget About Working 9 to 5

Reaching out to moms means that you need to be available on their schedule. Being a mom is a full time gig. They may need to pick up their kids from school, attend to their regular work routine, and get dinner on the table all at the same time.

That means that they most likely won’t have time to talk when you reach out to them. Instead, you will have to make yourself available when they reach out to you.

4. Create Targeted Content

Sure, telling your story and sharing how your products have helped you live a better life goes a long way in network marketing. But, if you really want to take your marketing to the next level, you need to share truly valuable content.

Moms don’t have the time to conduct a ton of research, they’re relying on you to share the most important and valuable information about your products.

If you really want to win them over, consider sharing easy to read charts, tables, and infographics that summarize key research findings and give moms the information they need to be confident enough to make a purchase.

It’s also a good idea to share training videos that demonstrate how to use your products to get the best result.

5. Develop a Social Media Strategy for Marketing to Moms

In 2020, it’s more important than ever to establish a social media presence for your own personal brand. Focus on creating a devoted fan base that will support your mission.

Improve your channel by creating video content, sharing user-generated content, passing along coupons and discounts, and turning moms into advocates for your brand by asking for referrals.
